One of my experimental pieces - decorated with high & low firing glazes on e/w bisque.
gord10 wrote on Mar 18, '09
First modelled in industrial porcelain clay .... then covered with plaster to make a block mould. Image is then cast in e/w slip, fettled and sponged - allowed to dry - then fired to create a bisque earthenware body. Decorated with under-glaze coloured oxides and then glazed.

First modelled in porcelain clay ... then pieces were carefully removed and covered with plaster to make several block moulds. These moulds were later used to slip cast the item,

Hi Gordon. Your students are very lucky to have you as a teacher. The realism, perspective and cast light in your students work is awesome. Wish I could take that class. I want to paint like that. Your work model work is amazing. I cannot even imagine getting that kind of detail on a figurine. Glad you post these in a place for all of us to view. Thanks Gordon.

Thank you Vicky for your welcome comments. The thimble sculptures were commercially the most successful range of ceramic studies that I produced. I think there were around sixteen characters in all. They were all decorated over-glaze and were backstamped 'Harlequin' (my company name). I did export quite a few to Australia and New Zealand. I'm glad you like them.

This is one of my favourite pieces .... painted over-glaze in two firings.
